Scribbles + Doodles + Alissa Sabillo’s humor = chaos. A funny, slice of life comic based on real life events.

SKROODELISSA is a standalone comic series.

SKROODELISSA is an ongoing comic series, with new episodes/strips added over time.

So my very first strip is just about the realization of my National I.D. photo turned out nothing like me after I had done my makeup and freshened myself up.

Another strip is about my Mama’s usual hospitality toward a nervous first-time guest at our house, followed by her getting shocked at the sudden change of behavior of same guest.

Some strips are just about staring at my skin in the mirror wondering what I did to deserve it and it’s all because of internal and external factors.

There’s a strip of me breaking my glasses…I don’t even want to talk about it.

None of it is planned around a theme — it’s just whatever actually happened that stuck with me long enough to draw.

More About Comic

To make SKROODELISSA, I combined the words Scribbles, Doodles, and my name Alissa.

I just made the “c” from scribbles into “k” because I didn’t like how SCROODELISSA looked like and for some reason, I like the letter K.

Don’t ask me why, but I like the letter K, and that’s that, Okay?

The “De” is “Of” in Philippine languages (due to Spanish colonization) so my comic would mean Scribbles and Doodles of Alissa.

I wanted to incorporate my name inside the title so it’s a quick way to know that, “Yeah, it’s Alissa’s.

Of course I’m the main and recurring character in my own comic. Hahaha!

There’s also my mother, my father.

But as for recurring, I just want to capture the essence of the moment.

SKROODELISSA’s art style not a deliberate choice. It’s based on my mood.

If I’m tired or “forget” how to draw, I have a simpler style (so simple coloring and even a “cartoonish” drawing).

If I have more time to burn, I can do more “illustrative” and “colorful” comics.

It’s hard not to pick a strip. I don’t even plan it because there’s so many things that just happen to me.

It’s me jotting down something as they happen but I found out that it makes me not enjoy the present and it loses the “magic” of the moment.

So I usually wait a while and if I remember what happened, I write down what happened and it usually is better.

The art style definitely changed a lot for SKROODELISSA.

I think I’m more focused in giving a “calm” vibe than just chaos, but I still wouldn’t let go of it.

The colors used to be very simple and “in your face”. 2024 and beyond, the palette became a muted, but not dry.

The tone and subject matter did not really shift. Then and now it was just about anything.

As for format changes, I started with 4 paneled comics then moved on to 6 panels, then realized I could cover up even 2 pages!

Then I wanted the entire comic to take the page so I did, but it’s also my “practice” to understand how the narration would work.
